An Evening of Chamber Music
Dainis Medjaniks and Aurelija Šimkus
A promising collaboration between outstanding young musicians who have prepared an exquisite candlelit program for you, complete with a glass of original drink!
You will hear a carefully selected program of pieces for joint performance, as well as solo performances by each artist.
The evening's composers include F. Schubert, J.S. Bach, B. Bartók, F. Liszt, and E. Grieg.
Dainis Medjaniks is a violinist from Germany who was born in Latvia. He began learning the violin at the age of 7 with teacher Galina Akuliča and his parents, both of whom are violinists. He later studied at the Jūrmala Secondary School, the Emīls Dārziņš School of Music. From 2017, he continued his studies in Germany at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, followed by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria). He subsequently studied at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts and then at the Berlin University of the Arts.
Since October 2023, he has worked permanently as a concertmaster with the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra.
Throughout his creative career, he has participated in competitions and performed extensively in concerts. In 2009, he won the Grand Prix at the Rising Stars competition and was invited to participate in the Copenhagen Summer Festival 2009. In 2015, the musician gained international attention by becoming a laureate of the 54th International Violin Competition "Premio Paganini" in Genoa, Italy. In 2023, Dainis performed with his permanent piano trio in Japan (Izumi Hall, Osaka). He is a scholarship holder of several foundations.
Dainis has worked with world-renowned professors such as Petru Munteanu, Vladimir Kločko, Felix Andrievsky, Marina Keselman, Mauricio Fuks, Zakhar Bron, Krzysztof Wegrzyn, Silvia Marcovici, Oliver Wille, Péter Bársony, Viviane Hagner, Gunter Pichler, Eberhard Feltz, Dirk Mommertz, and the Artemis Quartet.
As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras including the Kammerorchester des Niedersächsischen Staatsorchesters Hannover, Orchestra della Fondazione Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Sinfonieorchester Kusel, the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), and the Latvian National Opera Orchestra.
His concert geography is extensive, spanning Indonesia, China, Korea, Japan, the USA, Spain, the UK, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Germany, and others.
Dainis plays a master violin by Vlado Tilev, which in recent years has gained wide recognition worldwide. The concertmasters of orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam and the Bavarian State Opera also play on his violins.
Aurelija Šimkus is a Latvian pianist who began honing her piano skills at the Emīls Dārziņš School of Music in Riga under the guidance of Professor Sergejs Osokins. Since 2017, she has studied piano at the University of Music and Dance Cologne with Claudio Martinez-Mehner, in Sweden with Professor Julia Mustonen-Dalkvist, in Italy with Maestra Ingrid Fliter, and in Hanover with Professor Arie Vardi.
Starting in 2016, Aurelija has actively developed her career by participating in various projects. As a result, she received the prestigious German music award "Echo Klassik" in the "Best Young Artist of the Year" category and has received scholarships from world-renowned institutions such as the Orpheum Foundation Zurich and the Mozart-Gesellschaft Dortmund.
She has performed as a soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Rīga, and the Kaunas, Warsaw, Dortmund, German State Philharmonic, and other orchestras.
Aurelija has participated in numerous festivals, such as Interlaken Classics, Next Generation, Festival Puplinge Classique, Kissinger Sommer, Kurt Weill Festival, Schumann Festival, and others. She has performed in prestigious concert halls including the Tonhalle Zürich, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Stadthalle Bayreuth, Rheingoldhalle Mainz, and many others.
In 2024, Aurelija was nominated for the Latvian Great Music Award in the "Concert of the Year" category, together with violinist Elīna Buksa, for their joint concert.
