Results of the Rising Stars 2024 competition - Farewell until next year and thanks
We say goodbye for a year to everyone who participated, who was nearby, who empathized with us from afar and followed us during the “Kazinik Days” and the “Rising Stars” competition. Despite everything, it took place! And it was a success! Thanks to you, dear participants and their parents, dear teachers and accompanists! Thank you for supporting the competition and, of course, for your students, who thanks to it gain new experience and overcome another step in the career of an artist: a classical musician or singer!
There are always difficulties in holding a competition of this scale, so any help is gratefully accepted and used for the benefit of the beauty and quality of the concerts and the competition itself. Firstly, a wonderful atmosphere is created by the locations that we choose for our events every year. This is the Reformed Church, which has excellent acoustics, in the premises of which leading Latvian musical groups recorded - the former Melodiya recording studio. A unique opportunity for each contestant to perform in this place!
The second church with which we have been cooperating since 2012 is the Church of St. Paul, in which we began our lectures and concerts with the “Mysteries of the Organ” cycle. It contains an organ from the famous Walker company, which best served the purposes of our lectures.
And every year, as part of the project, one concert is performed in this church.
In recent years, Pavel Pereverzev has been implementing his ideas in this church with great success. Thank you very much to Pavel for your willingness to take the time and help us!
Well, the Gala concert this year was held at the Big Guild, because... the level of the participants, and especially the jury members, requires a famous stage!
Thank you to all the employees of these halls for your assistance and assistance!
Special thanks to the Jurmala Music School and personally to the director, Gunta Liepina, for the opportunity to open the festival days in their beautiful hall!
Thank you to the hotels that accommodated our jury members and foreign contestants.
This is the hotel Relais LeChevalier, Heartfelt thanks to its director, the wonderful Yulia Zhagunova.. And the hotel Rixwell Old Riga Palace Hotel.
Thanks to the companies that pleased us with their products - this is SIA Baltas Naktis, and Semiсol.eu, which produces records using new technologies, and donated samples of its products to our Champions as an incentive to someday release their recording on vinyl!
Results of the Rising Stars 2024 competition - Gratitude from the jury
Well, now about the respected members of the panel of judges.
Huge gratitude to them for these three days side by side with the contestants and in absolute agreement with each other. For their enthusiasm and competent comments, for the desire to give participants inspiration that will raise them to the next level of excellence. Under the watchful supervision and direct participation of our main Project Person, well known to everyone - Mikhail Kazinik, the results of the competition were determined. A permanent member of the jury, LMA professor, ethno-musicologist, violinist, who is always responsible for drawing up the main protocol of the competition - the distribution of places, Boris Avramets. Three winners of the “Rising Stars” competition, who won the Grand Prix in different years, and further achieved excellent results in their careers - this is Yulia Vasilyeva, Prima of our opera, owner of a delightful soprano, Dainis Medyanik, our very first winner, who represented the country at Copenhagen Summer Festival in 2009, and then his studies and career developed in Germany. He often comes to Latvia for concerts, and last year he was invited to the Sigulda Opera Festival. He is always with us during Kazinik’s days. Lisa Rakolta got to our competition thanks to Mikhail Svetlov, who was unable to come this year. Lisa left the Grand Prix and has since graduated from a serious musical institution in America - the Berklee Institute, now her musical career as an opera singer, mezzo-soprano, is successfully developing at the height of her capabilities. Ivar Bezprozvanov appeared on our horizon when the project of staging in honor of Lermontov’s anniversary based on the poem Demon was conceived, which we carried out with Rustem Galich already in 2011, calling it “And heaven opened for love.” This version is still on YouTube and gaining views... Since then, Ivar has been with us. I already wrote about Vyacheslav Zubkov that he was in Riga for the first time at Kazinik’s concert more than 10 years ago. And this year, to our great joy, he managed to fly from Israel and captivate the audience at the Gala concert. Well, another member of our 2024 team is a new artist for us, bass, who flew in from Italy, Viktor Sporyshev. You heard his magnificent voice, who was in St. Paul's Church on March 2.
The decision of the commission that I introduced you to was this: firstly, numbers were selected for performance at the Gala concert.
And then the places were distributed as follows, according to the list of results.
Kazinik Days in Riga 2024, Gala Concert
Everything ends someday. Three days filled with creativity, joy and love for the beautiful classics are behind us. It feels like it’s always been like this for the past 14 years, like already?.. We already miss you and look forward to seeing you next year!
The culmination of the holiday was the concert on March 3, a gala concert, at which 10 contestants performed in the first part, who were honored to be on the same stage with members of the jury, eminent musicians and Mikhail Kazinik himself. An important moment of this action is the comments of Mikhail Semenovich, giving wings to those who get into the cycle of our competitions. And here they are, these glorious names: Matvey Fokin, piano, Victor Gallo, vocals, Rinald Rosenlaiks, oboe, Sofia Polishchuk, violin, Elina Emilia Saulite, vocals, Maria Virki, piano, Maria Trosmane, vocals, all of Latvia. And our guests from different countries: Anna Karpova, cello, Katarina Rudenstock, violin, Maria Sviyazova, piano.
Remember THEM, you will hear about them again!
Well, in the second part of the concert there are enchanting performances by the jury members. We already know these names well from past years: Yulia Vasilyeva, soprano, Prima of our opera, Dainis Medyanik, a violinist from Latvia who has been working in Germany for many years, Ivar Bezprozvanov, one of the best cellists in Latvia, teacher at the Emil Darzin music school. Well, guests from different countries: Lisa Rakolta, mezzo-soprano from the USA and Vyacheslav Zubkov, pianist from Israel. Yulia, Dainis, Lisa - all of them in different years won the Grand Prix at our competition, and now with great gratitude we annually invite them to join our jury and, accordingly, see them at the Gala concert. With new programs, new combinations and new ideas.
Dainis Medyanik, whom our audience already knows well, has performed many times in Riga and Jurmala, last summer at the opera festival in Sigulda. The etude in the form of a waltz by Saint-Saëns-Ysaëe played brilliantly. And then all together in the Medyanik-Bezprozvanov-Zubkov trio, Donizetti’s play. The professionalism and virtuosity of everyone allowed them to prepare and present these works to your judgment in the shortest possible time.
Ivar Bezprozvanov, a master of his instrument, the cello, has been participating in projects of the international center since 2011, when we first staged a play based on Lermontov’s Demon, calling Rustem Galich’s project “And Paradise Opened for Love.” He has been on the jury all these years and easily fits into any proposed combinations.
In a duet with Zubkov, he performed Fauré’s Ellegy, so soft, at the same time filled with sound, so delicate and meaningful that, as an example of this work, it will remain in our archive and on YouTube. Bravo Ivar!
A new name heard at this concert is Vyacheslav Zubkov, who flew to us from Israel. However, if we recall the history of Kazinik’s concerts over 14 years, then in 2011, when Kazinik’s concert took place for the first time in the large hall of the Congress House, Vyacheslav was among the performers at that concert. And even then we realized that we had before us a brilliant pianist. And what a meeting with him will be another shock for the audience. And so it happened: a flurry of applause, the audience standing and expressing their delight! Bravo Vyacheslav, it was unforgettable! So voluminous, passionate, romantic, maintaining a sense of impeccable taste in everything. This is Zubkov!!
Yulia and Lisa, having met only before the start of Kazinik’s days, “sang” perfectly in the duets performed at the concert: this and Barcarolle from the opera “The Tales of Hoffmann” by Ofenbach, with which they opened the second part. And especially the flower duet from Leo Delibes’ opera “Lakmé”, which ended our evening, and which really “torn” the audience. What else can you shout in ecstasy of admiration? Everything happened!
We congratulate all the contestants who have already performed on the prestigious stage of the Big Guild in their careers! We wish them to keep the bar high for their achievements! Thank you very much to the members of the jury who devoted three days of their lives to our competition, and who, through their personal example, gave hope to all participants for limitless opportunities in such a complex field as classical music! And the main thing in this whole story is the process you are in, connecting your life with classical music. Bravo to you! Good luck! See you again!
